STUDIO VISIT & INTERVIEW : TEMJAI CHOLSIRI

Our friend, Temjai Cholsiri is an artist based in Chiangmai. We visited her beautifully crafted contemporary Lanna style home and studio situated by the Ping river. Temjai see the process of making her work as the practice of meditation. We took a moment to talk to her about life in Chiangmai during these strange times.

Sunrise or sunset and why?

Sunsets. I rarely get to catch sunrises since I'm not a morning person. When the sun goes down, it means the day's done. You can rest, relax and spend time with your loved ones. Another reason is - sunsets can be very dramatic with great clouds and bold colours, they have the power to set your mood and affect your emotions. It's just amazing.

What is the most interesting thing you have read or seen this week?

I've been watching lots of animal documentaries during the social distancing and it's so inspiring. It's kind of a reminder to me that we're sharing the planet with other living beings that provide services and balance in the ecosystem. There is no species more important than another, so treat other beings with respect.

Glamping or Camping ?

My answer would be...glamping! We all need a little bit of glamour in our life :P. Though I love nature and being adventurous, I do love to shower twice a day.

What is the first thing you're going to do when this is over?

Having a long walk up the mountain to get some fresh morning air, seeking a secret little cafe to have lunch, relaxing at home in the afternoon and then getting ready for a big night out with my friends! (I'm thinking of some restaurants and bars with some good music, wines and cheese platters)

Temjai's top place to visit in Chiang Mai?

There're so many amazing places in Chiang Mai but if I have to choose one, I'll go for Kew Mae Pan nature trail, Doi Inthanon national park. The trail is amateur-friendly, and you can finish the route in just a couple of hours. It takes you into the jungle with waterfalls along the route and the view up there is so stunning. Also, if you're lucky, you'll get to see some gorals and lovely green-tailed sunbirds!
